Yankee Candle Out of Africa Review

Out of Africa is a warm breeze for Autumn by Yankee Candle. With days getting colder, you'll be able to experience warm African sunset, exotic flowers and cosy nights with stars. They are a definite hit in this upcoming season and I couldn't ask for more. Although three scents are labelled as fresh, while one is floral, they still manage to bring uniqueness and warmth to the table. Honestly, I'm impressed with all 4 as they're definitely not stuffy but still exotic and fresh at the same time. Now who's up for a safari ride?

Out of Africa je topel veter z navdihom afriške narave za dišavno jesen Yankee Candle. Čeprav stopinje pri nas počasi padajo in se dnevi hladijo, bo jesenska kolekcija sveč in dišav poskrbela za tople dni ob kaminu s sanjami po afriškem sončnem zahodu, eksotičnih cvetlicah z Madagaskarja in prijetno toplih večerih ob opazovanju zvezd. Out of Africa je vsekakor več kot primerna kolekcija za prihajajočo sezono, saj ponuja ravno dovolj edinstvenosti, eksotike in nežnih vonjav. V kolekciji so štiri vonjave, od katerih so tri označene kot sveži vonji, medtem ko Madagascan Orchid ponuja cvetlični pridih. Kljub temu so vonji dokaj nevtralni za vsak dan, hkrati pa ravno dovolj nenavadni da ni pretežkih not. Toplo eksotični in sveži. Torej, kdo se želi popeljati po kratkem afriškem safariju?

Kilimanjaro Stars has the most unique concept out of them all. It encaptures the exact scent as you would imagine it after dark on a hot summer night. It's fresh yet warm with a bit of man's cologne if you ever experienced teenage love hangouts. Scent certainly reminds on Yankee Candle's permanent Midsummer's Night - tingly, a bit manly yet fresh as a summer night breeze. Actual main notes are mint and fresh mountain air for that slightly tingly notes and ever so loved patchouli for calmness.

Kilimanjaro Stars ponuja izkušnjo gorskega sveta Afrike, kar je dokaj zanimiva ponudba s strani Yankee Candle. Od vseh štirih vonjev, je ta vsekakor najbolj neverjeten. Zajema ravno to, kar si predstavljate pod vonjem in zvezdami toplih, poletnih noči. Je hkrati osvežujoč vetrič s preostankom toplote sonca in s ščepcem družbe moške kolonjske. Najboljši približek je stalni vonj Midsummer's Night - malce osvežujoč in hkrati podoben moškemu vonju s kombinacijo toplih noči. Za boljšo predstavo so glavne note mint in svež gorski zrak, ki dajejo svežino, zelo priljubljen patčuli pa poskrbi za umirjenost celotnega vonja.

Egyptian Musk is most warmest scent out of the entire collection. Musk as a base and almost sand-like notes along, it's truly likable for majority. Vanilla and cedar a bit of depth but on the first sniff it can remind on calming saunas. Neutral combination that's quite sandy and earthy. It makes it great for relaxing and opening your mind.

Egyptian Musk predstavlja toplejši spekter kolekcije. Nikakor ni zadušljiv, ravno nasprotno. Vonj je svež in nekako peščen. Mošus kot glavna baza poskrbi da je vonj všečen večini. Vanilija in cedra podata globino, ne da pa se jih zaznati na prvo žogo. Je nevtralni duet s peščenim in zemeljskim vonjem, kar sprošča in odpira misli. Na prvi preizkus vonj celo spominja na sproščujoče savne, ki umirijo. 

Serengeti Sunset just screams out sun and citrus. It's a orange based topnote with an African, spicy twist. Lotus flower and amber add an extra kick to the scent to make it more refreshing yet deep at the same time. Also, citrusy notes are slightly more calmer and less harsh. Quite an interesting spin on average citrus notes. 

Serengeti Sunset kar blešči navzven sonce in citruse s svojo živahno podobo. Vonj bazira na pomarančnih notah z afriškim zasukom. Lotosov cvet poda svežino, jantar pa poskrbi za topel pridih, kar naredi vonj vsestransko univerzalen in manj vpadljiv. Note citrusov so tako malce bolj umirjene in manj kisle. Zelo zanimiva sprememba tipičnih citrusnih sveč.

Madagascan Orchid has a distinct exotic flower scent. Has quite a powerful scent that witholds in the room for some time. It's nothing like any other regular orchid scent but rather tropical and a bit smokey. Truthfully, it's really hard to describe. If you usually hate typical flower candles, this might surprise you with one-of-a-kind scent. Green notes, smokiness and untypical flower scent are the main key notes. Captivating and great for romantic evenings.

Madagascan Orchid ima zelo močan, nepoznan vonj po eksotičnih orhidejah, ki rastejo le na Madagaskarju. Zlahka si predstavljam, da se vpliven vonj zadrži v prostorih tudi po sami uporabi voska ali sveč. Vonja se ne da primerjati z ničemer, saj ni tipičen vonj standardnih orhidej, ampak se da zaznati note dima ter eksotičnih listov. Po pravici povedano, je Madagascan Orchid izredno težko opisati, Če se ponavadi izogibate tipičnim cvetličnim vonjem, bo ta očaral z drugačnostjo. Zelene podnote, dim in netipičen cvetličen vonj nepoznane orhideje so glavnina. Ker je vonj tako privlačno edinstven, je odličen za romantične večere.

I've already reviewed Kawaii Box before (read here) and I got offered an awesome opportunity to try out their new candy box. Now, you already know I'm fascinated with Korean and Japanese makeup while candies were always a pleasant surprise from my Asian swap friends. Asian candy can be bought online from different retailers but for the double of the regular price. Also, picking out the perfect desserts or candy within your budget can be a stressful event. Also, if you follow me on Instagram you might know I solely eat plant based food. For this review, I've made an exception as it was a lovely opportunity I couldn't resist. However, Asian food usually doesn't contain a lot of dairy products but keep in mind that all products in these kind of boxes aren't exclusively vegan.

Let us start with the most obvious, Kabaya Fish/Frog Gummies. Unfortunately, due to the hot summer weather, inside gummies melted together in a one big bloop. Supposedly it comes shaped as fishes, fish eggs and pregnant fishes. Interesting. As for the flavour, it has a strong scent and taste after true, juicy mango - yum! Mango flavour is often used in Asian candy but it's still a nice burst of refreshment in my book.

Lotte Koala March Biscuits are fairly popular snacks and are available also in Europe. This particular batch has crispy biscuit on the outside and creamy chocolate filling on the inside. There are approximately 10-15 koalas in each small pack. How freakin' adorable is the design? Each koala has a different face or body expression.

Dorayaki Japanese Hotcake came as a sample 2-layered pancake with maple syrup filling in between. Texture was quite spongy and similar to original American pancakes while filling was super sticky and thick, reminiscent of jam. Taste was a bit artificial as most packaged sponge desserts and cakes. Definitely not my favourite but still cute enough to make the cut. I guess the whole inspiration came from Canada.

I was already familiar with Marukawa Fusen Bubble gum from previous swaps with Asian bloggers. These usually come packaged in small boxes with various flavours so I could count this a sample size. Strawberry flavour is on point but the texture looses it's taste and bounciness after 5 minutes. It's pleasant but goes ''cheesy'' quickly as most fruit bubble gums. You get 4 pink balls of strawberry bubblegum.

Meiji Kotsubu Chocolates are pretty standard chocolate snack in Asia. This is probably one of the first things you need to try. Again, I'm already familiar with this particular candy and fortunately I'm a fan. They come shaped as small cakes with a lower layer of chocolate and upper strawberry flavoured white chocolate. They are super tasty and not overly sweet. There are approximately 10-12 bite sized cakes in this small box.

Meiji Petit Bubblegum surprises with ''sparkle water effect'' in your mouth. You need to consume about 5-7 bubble gums to fully experience ''sparkle water''. At first it tastes like Sprite or lemony sweet juice but has a hint of refreshment (might be mint) that mildly tingles your mouth. Particularly unusual product. Big like. Japanese candy also have the most unusual openings while you can have fun with mini games on the back of the packaging. This bubblegum pack lasted me for a few weeks and taste lasts for a good half an hour or so.

Yaokin Sour Paper Candy is fairly similar to European version of sour candy. Basically it comes as a cola-flavoured string with sour topping. This is nothing new to my taste buds but it's still a cute concept for kids.

Pokemon Pikachu Pretzels were the most yummy treat out of the entire box. They come in a stick pretzel form just like standard Mikado's but with stracciatella flavour and scent. Utterly enjoyable treat with creamy frosting and chocolate bits.

Puccho Mixed Fruit Chewy Candy is my ultimate pick too. Big chunks of chewy candy give a mouth watering burst of fruit taste. With fruity strips on chewy blocks of candy, there are also small poppy balls of different flavours inside. Truly an enjoyable and unique candy.

Popin' Cookin' Neri Candy Land DIY Kit is definitely highlight of the box. Ever watched a video about Popin' Cookin' and miniature dishes made out of candy? Well, these things are highly popular among kids and adults. It's like a moulding clay kit but you can create cute, miniature food or animals out of chewy candy with grape flavour. You also get a tray for different shapes, a stick for making donuts and colourful sprinkles. 5 differently coloured chewy candy is enough to mix any colour you want. Heaven for kids to sparkle up their creativity. I wanted to make some fun miniatures but instead, I'm giving this away to my younger cousin as she was dying to try this in the past.

All in all, it's quite a unique batch of Japanese candy. Me and my family truly enjoyed discovering new flavours and textures. What I'm not so happy about is getting a mix of full-sized products and samplers. I totally understand room and price constrains bigger variety and if it were up to me - I would still rather try various samplers than getting a smaller variety upon ordering this box. Still, considering content, you'll get a lot of joy out of the entire box and scrumptious bits will last up to a week, including entire family into tasting. If you have kids, well, this box might enlighten their childhood - cute/kawaii packaging, bright colours, yummy flavours and creative candy will improve their imagination, taste buds and occupy them for a while. It's most likely that the scent will bring into your mind a freshly made apple compote with a hint of cinnamon but the main surprise will comes after the initial first impression. You'll detect a note of baked pastry with a bit of smokiness and crisp sliced apples with rum-caramel flavouring. The ''right out of the oven'' effect will simulate comfort in any kitchen or along with a cup of tea, but without any additional calories. Slight sourness from apple peels just perfect the entire candle.

Tarte Tatin je francoska slaščica, kjer so osnova karamelizirana jabolka in kompaktno testo. Raisins in creamy cognac and a pinch of light rum sugar just calls for attention. Rich vanilla and buttery dough just add a pinch of unique touch on the end. All components together create a symphony of various aromas. Pain Au Raisin is suitable for all rooms, not only kitchen.

Rozine, kremni konjak ter ščepec rumovega sladkorja pritegne pozornost. Bogata vanilija in masleno, mehko testo dajo poseben vonj. Vse komponente so povezane v simfonijo arom, ki presentijo. Pain Au Raisin je tako primerna za vse prostore, ne le kuhinjo.

Cappuccino Truffle, again, a chocolate confectionery from France. Scent is a blend of mocha, raw cocoa and centered tender ganache. On first sniff you can definitely detect dark chocolate with mild coffee blend right after it. Coffee scent is in no way too strong and delivers bitter component for a balanced and chocolate-true, realistic scent. Also, between these two main notes, there are swirls of tender sugar and vanilla. A really likable aroma for all chocoholics.

Cappuccino Truffle je poznan kot francoska čokoladna pralina. Vonj je mešanica kave, surovega kakava in sladke tekoče notranjosti. Zazna se temna čokolada z rahlo mešanico kave. Vonj kave nikakor ni premočan, ampak omogoči vonju pristnost prave čokolade z grenkobo. Med temi notami se zazna tudi vanilija in sladkor. Zelo všečen vonj za vse, ki ste zaljubljeni v čokolado.

As a test, I had to test out the real thing to properly compare it with Yankee Candle. Baked raisin rum buns smelled as yummy as Pain Au Raisin candle. 10/10 points with a bonus of zero calories. And since I'm already talking about scrumptious raisin rolls I have a need to share the recipe. And let's be honest, I'm not much of a cook. Recipe and baked goodies were given to me by my beloved sister. A big thanks to my sister!

VEGAN RAISIN RUM ROLLS RECIPE

Ingredients:
21g of solid yeast
2 cups of water
teaspoon of sugar
4 cups of plain flour
raisins & rum upon your desire
2 tablespoons of margarine
1 cup of sugar
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
1 cup of soy milk or lemon juice
21g (half a cube) of yeast

First of all, you mix yeast into 2 cups of luke water to disolve it. Add a teaspoon of sugar and tablespoon of plain flour to active the yeast. After added ingredients, slowly warm up the yeast liquid to a warm temperature. In the meantime, soak raisins in rum. When the yeast liquid rises a bit, add it to 3 cups of plain flour and knead the dough until it's soft. Add tiny amount of water if the dough isn't fluffy enough but it shouldn't stick to your fingers. After, roll out the dough into a rectangle shape and with only 1cm thickness. Spread margarine all over the dough and sprinkle over a mix of cinnamon and sugar, while also add soaked raisins. Gently roll the dough and cut out 8 pieces of buns. Leave it raising for about an hour and then bake for 20min on 200 Celsius/392 Fahrenheit. For extra sweetness, mix soy milk/lemon juice with powdered sugar to get a gluey consistency. Pour it over hot raisin buns. Enjoy your raisin rolls!

One thing that's certain, is that Oud oil is highly praised and searched ingredient for perfumes and cosmetics. It's earthy, luxurious, rich yet mild. If you love sophisticated fragrances, you will highly appreciate this unique scent. It's gorgeously balanced with sweet and woody notes, yet unfamiliar to our smelling buds. Tropical scent reminiscent on vanilla and Tahitian gardenia. It's similar to ever so famous Monoi Oil while slightly comparable to good old Yankee Candle Sun&Sand but with a unique twist.

Scent is velvet, like a perfect amount of freshly squeezed argan oil and spice. Patchouli and sandalwood add an extra kick of Orient. Velvety soft, yet fresh with a subtle pinch of wood tones.

Yankee Candle New Fruit Scents 2015

It would be almost impossible to pass spring without Yankee Candle released at least a candle or two in fruit fragrances. While upcoming releases will be more orientated around earthy scents & spices (Grand Bazaar), Summer collection will surprise us with urban coffee-holic dreams (Cafe Culture). Pretty much, these two fruit scents are the only ones, which will stir fruit bat senses. Indulging raspberries for a sweet tooth, while ripe grapefruit will refresh your home.

Skoraj nemogoče se je izogniti sadnim vonjem pri Yankee Candle v času razvijajoče se pomladi. V prihajajočih dneh sledijo zelo nenavadne kolekcije dišav z zemeljskimi, orientalskimi vonji (Grand Bazaar) in urbanistična poletna kolekcija za vse kavo-holike (Cafe Culture). Torej sta dva nova sadna vonja v omejeni kolekciji letos prava redkost. Oba bosta zagotovo zmešala Vaše čute, če ste pravi ''sadni netopir''. Čuteče in sladke maline so odlične za vse sladkosnede, grenivka pa bo poskrbela za svežino v majhnih prostorih. Oba vonja sta Limited Edition, kar pomeni, da ne bosta ostala v redni kolekciji dolgo časa.

Red Raspberry smells exactly the same as scrumptious raspberry jam in the making. It's like visiting your grandma on a warm summer afternoon. Lots of warmth and sugary sweet berries with a hint of bubblegum. Likable scent but not everyone's cup of jam. To some, it might be too overpowering or sweet, especially if you like pristine fruit scents. If you're a true fan of cult favourite Black Cherry, Red Raspberry might feed your senses. 

Pink Grapefruit is on the other hand, a more refreshing and clean, citrusy scent. It almost boarders on ''fruit cleansers'' kind of scent. Bitter as the sun-kissed grapefruit peel, it still preserves a hint of sweetness and sourness. Worth checking out if you're craving a good old spring clean. 

Red Raspberry diši popolnoma enako kot malinina marmelada v pripravi. Vonj spominja na otroške dni, ko je še babica pripravljala marmelado v poznem poletnem času. Veliko topline in maline v stopljenem sladkorju dajo poseben čar tej sveči. Prav tako se zazna rahel dodatek vonja po sadnem žvečilnem gumiju. Zelo všečen vonj, vendar pa ta kozarček sveže marmelade ne bo priljubljen pri vsakemu. Nekaterim bo vonj mogoče presladek. Če ste oboževalec zelo poznane Black Cherry dišave, bo Red Raspberry čudovit dodatek za hranjenje Vaših čutov.

Pink Grapefruit je na drugi strani veliko bolj osvežilen in čist vonj. Dišava že skoraj meji na vonj sadnih čistil, kar pa je lahko dobra lastnost za osvežitev zatohlih in malih prostorov. Grenek, zrel olupek je sicer prisoten v vonju, vendar ne zasenči majhnega deleža sladkobe ter kislosti. Vonj bo dobra izbira, če hrepenite po dobrem, starem spomladanskem čiščenju doma.

Both scents are limited edition so they won't stick around. While Red Raspberry is a really pleasantly warm scent, Pink Grapefruit just isn't anything special for my personal taste. Not overpowering but still feeding the senses with fresh and crisp scents. They are all perfect for adding freshness and calmness to your home, a perfect synergy with Spring. There are three types of scents: Shea Butter, Cassis and Aloe Water.

Kot smo verjetno opazili, se pomlad vztrajno prebija do nas. Svež zrak in cvetoče rastline vplivajo blagodejno na naše počutje pri vsakodnevnih dejavnostih. Za kar je Yankee Candle ustvaril Pure Essence za relaksacijo in udobje v lastnem domu. Vsi trije vonji so osvežilni in sproščujoči, v sinergiji s prebujeno spomladjo. V kolekciji so tako trije vonji: Karitejevo maslo, Črni ribez in voda Aloe. 

Shea Butter is an addition to ever so popular fresh scents like Clean Cotton and Soft Blanket. It's in the similar ''scent family'' while offering a touch of creaminess. It's not a typical straight forward clean scent but has faded notes of nuts and vanilla. Clean but creamy is what I would call it. If you're already familiar with Shea Butter skincare range from L'Occitane, it smells exactly the same as ever famous Shea Butter Hand Cream. Neutral enough for every day but with a tinge of creamy clean smell. It's quickly becoming a favourite.

Karitejevo maslo je nova pridobitev k svežim vonjem kot so Clean Cotton (čisti bombaž) in Soft Blanket (mehka odeja). Karitejevo maslo je v podobni družini vonjev,  vendar nudi več kremastih not. Ni tipičen čist vonj, ampak ima dodatek oreščkov ali vanilije. Čist, vendar kremni vonj nikakor ni zadušljiv ali neprijeten za vsak dan. Če ste že seznanjeni z vonjem kariteja v kozmetiki, boste spoznali, da je vonj te sveče točno enak. Nevtralen dovolj za vsak dan, vendar še vedno z dodatkom kremne čistosti za osvežitev prostorov. Vonj je hitro postal eden izmed bolj priljubljenih. 

With Aloe Water, you can sense freshly sprouted succulents with morning dew. Pleasant water-like scent with a tinge of nectar sweetness. It's entirely ''out of the box'' scent that would be perfect for a calm evening or relaxed morning. If you love aloe water in general, this would be a perfect fit for you. 

Pri vonju vode Aloe (Aloe Water) se takoj zazna sveže sočnice z jutranjo roso. Ima zelo prijeten, dokaj ''vodni'' vonj s peščico nektarjeve sladkobe. Na hitro ima mogoče melonast vonj, vendar še zdaleč ni tako vpadljiv in moteč. Vonj je dokaj nenavaden za Yankee Candle in je odličen za sprostitev zvečer ali začetek svežega jutra. Če ste na splošno navdušeni nad Aloe izdelki, bi bila ta sveča prava izbira. Aloe Water je tako lahko odlična izbira za darilo, če niste prepričani v pravo izbiro.

Cassis is the most fruity scent out of the whole collection. While fruity scents can be overpowering and sickening, Cassis has a great balance of bitter and sweet. It's not too sweet but still spa-like and bitter-sour for every day. You can detect green notes with dark, bitter-sweet fruits.  Not everyone's cup of tea but with a sophisticated level of brightness. Also, Cassis has the most powerful fragrance out of three.

Črni ribez ima najbolj sadne note v omenjeni trojici. Medtem ko so lahko nekateri sadni vonji zelo močni in osladni, ima črni ribez odlično ravnovesje sladkega in grenkega. Ker ni presladek, bi bil odličen kot dodatek jogi ali meditaciji. Pri vonju se zaznajo temni, malce grenki sadeži z notami zelenja. Vonj sicer ne bi bil prva izbira večine, vendar ima določeno stopnjo prefinjenosti z grenkobo. Črni ribez je tudi najmočnejši vonj med Pure Essence svečami. 

All three are really likable, neutral scents that compliment fresh, spring season. They are all quite self explanatory and straightforward. My personal pick is Aloe Water: succulent based with a sweet tinge. Yankee Candles are sold worldwide.
